Community is Vital

Dear Reader,

What if I told you, for all your biohacking efforts, that the paramount metric for health and longevity is a sense of community…?

The curious case of Roseto Valfortore, Italy.

If you've read Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers", you will be familiar with this tale.

In the hills of Italy exists a small town of about a thousand people.

They drink, smoke, and eat as they please. And yet, no incidences of coronary heart disease in anyone under fifty-five.

Walking down the street, you won't see the depressed faces of the mentally ill. But instead, jovial smiles and greetings.

By every case study, these people should be riddled with mortality factors.

Instead, they seem to live forever.

Fascinated, scientists descended upon the town in the sixties. They found that town members' relatives experience predictable health complications indicative of their lifestyle.

Even those living in neighboring towns with identical climates. Ruling out genetic fortitude.

So how do these townsfolk remain impenetrable?

When asked, they all expressed a deep sense of community, ingrained in the fabric of their town.

Where one person could go to another for help at any given time and expect to receive unconditional assistance.

This was found to be the true marker of longevity.

Having people you can surround yourself with that you can count on, without exception.

So don't stop eating right, or exercising, or taking supplements. But do pay closer attention to who's around you. And try and foster a sense of community for others in your own life.

With Respect and Devotion,
