Why You Should Wear Shoes Less

Dear Reader.

What everybody ought to know about shoes.

And yet nobody seems aware.

Is that modern shoes have malformed the feet of an entire population.

The shoes you are wearing right now are confining. Nikes, OnClouds, and Hokas alike.

The rounded, narrow shape at the end of the shoe have warped the foot from years of restriction.

Similar to the elongated skulls found in southwest Asia. The foot prisons we were assigned as a youth have distorted the feet.

Consider the foot of Lebron James.

The result of prolonged running, abrupt stopping, and pivoting in constrictive shoes.

What a strange punishment we bestow upon ourselves... Our toes are meant to be splayed.

We know this because indigenous people who have never known a shoe have splayed toes.

Along with, go figure, an incredible capacity for athleticism. Because toe splay increases grip and allows for optimal balance.

Resulting in quicker and more calibrated running, leaping, climbing, etc. While a "smushed pinky" is effectively useless.

You might say, "Well, Lebron can jump higher and run faster than most." True, and if he had proper toe splay, he would be an athlete like we've never seen. Even more optimal.

Luckily, there are ways to correct a misshapen foot. Namely, strength training. But if you want to reverse the malformation of your feet. Then you will need to be barefoot as much as possible. And since this is often not feasible.

Then you will need to reach for a pair of "barefoot" shoes for your daily wear. These shoes have a wider toe box to support the toe splay within the shoe. As nature intended.
